4 ESCAPE DEATH AS SUSPECTED MILITANTS ATTACK TRANS-FORCADOS PIPELINE AGAIN

WARRI- FOUR surveillance guards narrowly missed death on Monday night, as suspected militants yet again attacked the Trans-Forcados Export trunk line in Batan community, Warri South West Government Area, Delta State, six days after a related incident. Vanguard gathered that the gunmen opened fire on the four local security men, who were among those guarding the equipment used for repair of the line and other installations, but they were lucky, as the shots missed target.

After chasing away the surveillance team away, the suspected militants came down from their speedboat, planted dynamites on swamp boogie, barge, and crane and on the line.” “Unfortunately, only the dynamite on the barge exploded and immediately sank into the water. As I speak to you, the military are at the scene of the incident trying to dismantle the other dynamites,” a community source said. A security official attached the Operation Delta Safe, operating in the area, who spoke anonymously, said: “We heard the shots in the middle of the night, but as you know, we do not patrol the area at night, so there was nothing we could do.” Chairman of Batan community, Dickson Ogugu, who confirmed Monday night attack, said: “The Trans-Forcados export trunk line, which was undergoing another repair after the previous attack on November 2, was billed for commissioning either today (Tuesday) or tomorrow (Wednesday).” The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) in a statement by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, had claimed responsibility for the November 2 attack on the trunk line, saying that its aggrieved commander, Western Delta, carried out the attack. The group, which re-assured that it had not returned to militancy, asserted: “The unauthorized attack by our Commander Western Delta (CWD) was to express the disapproval of MEND fighters at the Chief Edwin Clark-led PANDEF for failing to list out in clear terms, as agreed, the concessions already secured between MEND and the Federal Government to President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 during a courtesy visit.” However, suggestions by the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, NDGJM, which earlier warned about an attack on the export pipeline, that its fighters actually carried out the November 2, pitched it against the Niger Delta Avengers during the week. Spokesperson of NDA, self-styled Brig Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, accused NDGJM of making bogus claims.
