Senate President Saraki continues with CTT trial

SENATE PRESIDENT SARAKI CONTINUES WITH CCT TRIAL

Following the dismissal of his application recently, the trial of Senate president, Dr Bukola Abubakar Saraki, over alleged false assets declaration  continues today, October 7, the Daily Trust reports. NAIJERIA NEWS learnt that this is reportedly causing unease at the Senate, the upper arm of the National Assembly presided over by Saraki. The trial continues before the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar.

Saraki’s application asking the chairman of the tribunal to disqualify himself was dismissed on October 5.

The Court of Appeal in Abuha had also recently thrown out Saraki’s application challenging the jurisdiction of the CCT to entertain the charges against him.

The report said the continued trial is expected to witness the cross-examination of the first prosecution witness, Michael Wetkast, an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who had made many revelations concerning the case. The executive arm of government and the Senate had long engaged in a ‘cat and rat’ relationship with the Senate, on, at least, two occasions, frustrating the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
